Al-Falah

Braintree's local community Islamic centre

Our History and Community

Serving Braintree's Muslim community since 1978.

History

Al-Falah Braintree Islamic Centre was founded in 1978, providing Friday Jummah facilities for the few Muslim families living and working in Braintree. The first Jummah was held above Curry Place Tandoori on Fairfield Road.

The community grew, and by 1986 Jummah had to be held in the Braintree District Council Halls to accommodate growing numbers, with daily prayers and weekend Madrasa classes held at Curry Place.

In 2000 the derelict Royal British Legion building was leased to Al-Falah, and the community installed a floor, repaired the toilets and built a wudu area, eventually establishing a full suite of mosque services.

The mosque door is now open 24/7, providing Jummah, the five daily prayers, Madrasa, marriage registry, Janaza services, Tarawih and a weekly sisters' gathering, and also holds community fun-days and school visits.

The congregation is truly multicultural, drawing families from the Indian Sub-Continent, European and Asian Anatolia, Eastern Europe, North Africa, Sub-Saharan Africa, Arabia and England, spanning all ages and professions.
